Cort SFX-MYRTLEWOOD BR | Brown-Burst Gloss Super-Slim Electro-Acoustic
Cort SFX-MYRTLEWOOD BR — Brown-Burst Gloss Super-Slim Electro-Acoustic Guitar
The SFX-MYRTLEWOOD BR takes Cort’s feather-weight SFX architecture, dresses it in an espresso-to-amber brown-burst gloss and voices it with the shimmering complexity of Oregon myrtlewood. Twenty-four frets, a 3¼-inch body depth and CE304T electronics make it equally at home in a coffee-house loop rig or under festival wash lights. The long-form exploration below details every facet—from wood chemistry and bracing calculus to finish science, ergonomic nuance, amplification strategy, eco posture and lifetime care—then distils the essentials into a white–gray specification table.
1 | Brown-Burst Vision — Colour Meets Grain
Cort’s natural-gloss myrtle wooed boutique fans, but touring players begged for darker stage aesthetics that forgave beer-glass fingerprints. The engineering team developed a three-tone brown-burst: mocha at the rim, caramel mid-belt and golden sap-line at the centre. A UV-cured gloss (≈ 110 µm after level-sand) refracts light through myrtle’s chatoyance yet adds only minimal mass—less than many import polys—preserving top agility.
2 | Body Geometry — SFX Slimline with Arched Back
Lower-bout 15 ¾″ • waist 11″ • uniform depth 83 mm (3 ¼″). The laminated-myrtle back arches 12 mm to compensate for the shallow cavity and project low fundamentals forward. Combined with a cutaway radius of 2.8″, the design gives the fretting hand unfettered access to fret 24 while keeping the whole instrument under 3.9 lb (≈ 1.77 kg).
3 | Tone-Wood Topology — Myrtle’s Triple Personality
Top. AAA figured myrtlewood, kiln-balanced to 8 % MC, sanded to 2.7 mm centre. Myrtle’s density straddles maple and mahogany, yielding quick attack plus lingering low-mid body.
Back & Sides. Three-ply myrtle laminate, outer plies book-matched curl, centre ply rotated 90° for crack resistance.
Neck. One-piece mahogany, dual-action truss rod, satin back for friction-free slides.
Fingerboard & Bridge. Ovangkol, oiled, 24 nickel frets, 16″ radius—electric familiarity on bronze strings.
4 | Bracing Algorithm — Hybrid X-Fan for Shallow Cavity
A forward-shifted X (3 mm crest → 1.5 mm feather tips) intersects just south of the sound-hole, then morphs into triple fan struts below the bridge, distributing tension across the arched back. Tap-tone plots show an A fundamental—excellent for singer-songwriter keys and percussive body slaps.
5 | Neck Mechanics — 24 Frets, Flat Radius
Depth 0.82″ @ 1st → 0.87″ @ 9th; bone nut 43 mm; 400 mm (~16″) radius. Factory action 2.3 mm (bass) / 1.9 mm (treble) at the 12th, with a tall saddle for downward customisation. Heel carve plus slim body invite sweep arpeggios and tapped harmonics up to fret 24.
