The SFX-ME BK squeezes Cort’s Slim-Folk-Crossover DNA into a shadow-black silhouette no thicker than many electrics. A solid mahogany soundboard, arched mahogany back and open-pore satin coating collide to produce a voice that is simultaneously warm, punchy and feedback-resistant. Twenty-four frets, a shred-friendly C neck and an undersaddle/CE304T electronics package extend the invitation from sofa to stage, while the factory-supplied gig bag makes commuter life painless. 1 | Why Black Satin?

Cort’s SFX line was born to blur the boundary between acoustic resonance and electric ergonomics. The BK trim (Black Satin) amplifies that crossover vibe: its non-reflective stealth finish tames stage glare, hides pick scuffs and pairs with anything from nightclub neon to coffee-house Edison bulbs. Open-pore chemistry keeps the film to ≈ 65 µm—about a third of gloss rivals—allowing the super-thin plates to breathe freely and keeping the guitar’s weight interior-friendly.

At only 83 mm (≈ 3¼″) depth, the SFX chassis undercuts traditional folk bodies by a full inch. To avoid volume starvation, engineers arch the mahogany back 12 mm at its apex, converting it into a tonal reflector that fires internal energy toward the sound-hole. Lower-bout width settles at 15 ¾″; waist, 11″—a perfect fit for smaller frames, long rehearsals and stand-up busking sets. Average uncased weight? An airy 3.7 lb (≈ 1.68 kg).

3 | Tone-Wood Matrix — All‐Mahogany Warmth Meets Quick Decay

Top · Back · Sides. Quarter-sawn Khaya mahogany seasoned eight months, kiln-balanced to 8 % MC and shaved to a 2.9 mm centre/2.6 mm edge top profile. Mahogany’s higher internal damping ensures loops don’t smear, and the open-pore finish compounds that speed.
Neck. One-piece mahogany, dual-action rod, finished in identical satin so hand feel never changes during upper-fret ventures.
Fingerboard & Bridge. Ovangkol (≈ rosewood density) oiled only, preserving micro-vibration transfer.

4 | Bracing — Hybrid X-Fan for a Shallow Cavity

A traditional dread X would stiffen this thin box into silence; instead Cort deploys a hybrid: the X intercepts near the bridge, but its lower legs flare into three fan braces that track the back’s curvature. Crest heights 2.4 mm, feather tips 1.6 mm. The result is top agility plus arched-back piston power, generating room-filling mids from an unexpectedly slim shell.

5 | Finish Engineering — 65 µm Black Satin

Two layers: water-borne pore sealer and UV-cured satin polyurethane. Benefits: 4–5 % extra top deflection, matte anti-glare finish for cameras, and a stealth aesthetic resistant to bar-top scratches. Maintenance involves a simple microfiber wipe—no swirl mark anxiety.
